As of August 1st 2010 all Equestrian Sport New Zealand registered coaches must hold a current ‘first aid at work’ or ‘comprehensive’ certificate. We strongly advise any coach to do the same. The initial course is for two days with a one day refresher every two years thereafter as long as it’s dates do not lapse. Make sure you tell people that you hold a current first aid certificate – put it on your business cards or note paper make it a ‘selling point’ suggesting that clients will be ‘in safe hands’ . It also relates well to standards set in other sports codes, with SPARC and ACC. Useful websites to find course dates near you :- www.stjohn.org.nz and www.redcross.org.nz EQUESTRAIN COACHES’ UNDER USED RESOURCE As sports coaches we have access to a great government funded resource = our regional sports trust.
