Testimonials “Thank you again for all that you have done for Precious and I. Words do not do justice to the appreciation I feel for all your gentle guidance that has vastly improved our ‘way of going’ and understanding of each other. Equestrain Coaches in the top of the south island New ZealandEQUESTRIAN COACHES COMMENT “A communication for equestrian coaches in the top of the South Island of New Zealand” ( Issue 1. Vol 1. October 2010) Aim:-to help create a network and communication between all coaches from many different equine disciplines, sports codes & training methods – with a focus on the ‘HOW TO’ of coaching and learning. This publication is sponsored by ‘Equine Positive Learning’ & edited by Jeanette Garrett B.H.S.I., Ad. Dip. Ed. & Equestrian Sports Performance Coach. Your feedback and input is vital to the continuation of this publication. Please make contact via:- website www.equinepositivelearning.co.nz , email jeanette@equinepositivelearning.co.nz Tel/Fax 03 528 7123, OR Facebook Equine Positive Learning The majority of people that coach riders in New Zealand do so in isolation with little few opportunities to meet up, exchange ideas and generally network ‘as a coach’, particularly in our mainly rural region. Yet there are many of us – some coaching full or part time, others on a more casual basses, some paid, others as volunteers, some trained and qualified, others not. Collectively there is a huge resource of knowledge amongst us that could be shared and benefited from, in particular on the matter of the ‘how to’ of coaching, mentoring, teaching and creating learning for and with others. Interaction with other like minded coaching people could enable us to be even more effective in what we do. The purpose of this news letter is to start a means of communicating such ideas. There are plenty of books and articles ‘out there’ for equestrian coaches and I will endeavor to review some of them for you, but our best resource is with each other, ultimately face to face so that could be something to instigate ‘down the track’. This news letter is to see ‘who’s out there’ and what interest there is – spread the word and share this newsletter with others that coach or who would like to coach and GET BACK TO ME!! Finally a quote from Jennifer Howard’s latest book ‘Coaching with Confidence – words, phrases & useful suggestions gathered from a lifetime of equestrian coaching’ :- “ As an equestrian coach, have you ever thought of how many ways there are of delivering the same message, but using different words? Helping people learn, to improve, involves their co-operation, otherwise they will not act on your advice. So whatever you say to them has to be acceptable, even if it is not exactly what they were hoping to hear. Not everyone will be in the state of mind where they can receive ‘criticism’ in obvious form, and it will require considerable talent on your part to get your point across to them.” This is a great little book with much to offer – available from www.equinepositivelearning.co.nz Great value at only $12 Jeanette A.
