Jeanette became a chief examiner for the British Horse Society before she emigrated to New Zealand, examining students in full and part time study that were working in the equine industry as grooms, riding school coaches, competition riders, managers of equestrian centres, stud farms and competition stables.
The British Horse Society’s structured career pathway is internationally recognized for its equestrian qualifications and is highly respected with many overseas students training in the United Kingdom to achieve these qualifications
A few years before Jeanette emigrated, National Vocational Qualifications were introduced and she became involved with the development of equine qualifications and also became an assessor. In her role as equine resource manger for Durham College of Agriculture (north east England) Jeanette set up internal and external moderation and assessor training.
Although Jeanette’s time was limited she still remained on the (UK) panel of examiners for the pony club and riding club associations.
The depth of Jeanette’s experience was used when she became part of the team/committee when New Zealand Qualifications Authority (NZQA) were introduced creating and developing equine qualifications in New Zealand making it possible for those wanting to gain qualifications to be trained and assessed in New Zealand.
Jeanette assesses NZQA equine units for Private Training Establishments including an Equine e-learning programme which enables the student to study the theory components ‘on line’. She assesses the practical aspects of the programme.
Jeanette has a passion for working with equestrian coaches – our future trainers – supporting and mentoring them to achieve their goals and qualifications, some starting as a pony club coach or those wishing to set up or already running their own equestrian businesses.
Jeanette works with the New Zealand Equine Industry Training Organization with the preparation of practical assessment sheets, as a moderator, the training of new assessors and up-skilling those already assessing in the industry or within training establishments.
