“Thank you again for all that you have done for Precious and I. Words do not do justice to the appreciation I feel for all your gentle guidance that has vastly improved our ‘way of going’ and understanding of each other. You have been pivotal to us making a large quantum leap in the last year.”

Centered Riding by Sally Swift. more...

This books first publication 21 years ago caused a revolution in riding by demonstrating how good use of the body can make a world of difference to both rider and horse. The author is widely known for her innovative teaching philosophy stressing body awareness, the value of proper breathing, centring and balance, and her methods enable horse and rider to achieve harmony, working together naturally and without pain.

Jeanette's comments about this book.....

" Sally Swift - the author is an icon and respected world wide by riders and coaches. She was one of our early published coaches to use visualisation and imagery to develop 'feel' and balance to achieve real connection and harmony when riding. Coming from a classical riding background in dressage and jumping this book covers both with easy to read text and clear diagrams.

This book is suitable for all levels of riders and it gives you a 'how to do it' method with creative ideas. I particularly like and use the visualisation on page 58 with the rider like a spruce tree with roots going downwards from the waist and the tree growing upwards a fun exercise too!

This is a book you will return to over and over again. I value it in my equestrian library."

Author Notes: Sally taught riding professionally for ten years as a young woman, however moved on and it wasnt until she retired at the age of 62 that she returned to teaching riding. She had an awareness of the body-mind connection and its importance to the mechanics of riding well. The book Centered Riding was published in 1985 and became one of the best-selling horse books of all time. It was followed by two popular videotapes in 1986. Sally began to travel both nationally and internationally to teaching Centered Riding. She formed the organization Centered Riding Inc, and since the organization began 1,000 instructors have been approved. Now aged 85 she no longer travels, but still teaches a few private lessons and some two-day clinics.
